Lame as a Duck. What is Congress to do until January?

With the new Congress not to begin until January, the current Congress has some time to kill.  So what will they do?  Some media outlets are claiming that this current Democrat lead Congress will try to act quickly and force many different bills or acts through while they still have the majority.  Some of these issues include addressing the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy regarding homosexuals, as well as spending bills.  Is this the right move for Democrat's to take given the present situation.  Should they quickly take advantage of their remaining power before it is taken away?  Will this only make the country even more disappointed with them?  Even if Democrat's push through legislation, the new Republican lead House may be able to overturn in come January.  So what does Congress do in this waiting period known as the "Lame Duck Session?"  Perhaps they will do what the ducks around here are doing, sit around and wait for the seasons to change.
